Baseball Newspaper
PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release: Friday, May
26, 2000
"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S"
ALL-AMERICAN BASEBALL TEAMS
TUCSON, Ariz. The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams
were announced today which have a potent mix of pitching and offense.
The 18-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the
staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features seven conference players or
pitchers of the year, including: RHP Kip Bouknight (Southeastern Player Of The
Year), RHP Aaron Heilman (Big East Pitcher Of The Year), RHP Shane Komine
(Big 12 Player Of The Year), 2B Matt Easterday (Southern Player Of The Year), SS
Tim Hummel (Colonial Player Of The Year), OF Mike Campo (Big Ten Player Of The
Year), DH Al Corbeil (Sun Belt Player Of The Year).
The first team features six starting pitchers who posted a combined 73-13 record with
an ERA of 2.59. Cal. St. Fullerton's Adam Johnson leads the first team pitchers with 153
strikeouts. The first team relief pitcher, Cory Scott of East Carolina, has saved 22 games
this season which is one short of the NCAA record.
The offense features power, line drive hitters and speed. The first team belted 182
homers (average 16.5 per player). Nine players hit 18 or more doubles this season. As far
as speed, four players swiped 16 or more bases.
The first team also features Collegiate Baseballs National Player of The
Year in RHP Kip Bouknight of South Carolina. Bouknight posted a glistening 15-1 overall
record with a 2.87 ERA and fanned 129 batters with only 33 walks. He won his first 15
games of the season against rugged competition before losing his last start at the
Southeastern Conference tournament to Kentucky. In those 15 consecutive wins, he was
unbeaten in the SEC regular season (9 wins).
The following are the first, second and third team Louisville Slugger All-Americans for
