All-American Teams College - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" PRE-SEASON ALL-AMERICAN BASEBALL TEAMS

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I Pre-Season All-American baseball teams were announced today which have a potent mix of pitching and offense.

The 17-man first team, picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features a 6-man pitching staff which posted a 63-18 overall record last season and averaged 134 strikeouts and only 45 walks per pitcher — nearly a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. The first team reliever, Brandon Belanger from Tulane, posted 16 saves last season with a 2.45 ERA.

On offense, the first team averaged 24 home runs per player led by OF Daylan Holt of Texas A&M with 34. As far as doubles and RBI, 2B Marshall McDougall of Florida State racked up 26 doubles and knocked in 106 runs to lead the team. Speed is also present as OF Jeff Stallings of Oral Roberts swiped 49 bases.

The first team also features Collegiate Baseball’s Pre-Season National Player of The Year in Xavier Nady (California) who is expected to be one of the first college players chosen in next June's Free Agent Draft. Last season in the rugged Pac-10 Conference, he hit .374 with 23 homers, 17 doubles and 62 RBI.

The following are the first, second and third team Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-Americans for 2000. Complete statistics on each of the players accompany this release.
