"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" ALL-AMERICAN BASEBALL TEAMS

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams were announced today which have a potent mix of pitching and offense.
 
The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features 13 conference players or pitchers of the year, including:
 
• RHP Jered Weaver, Long Beach St. (Co-Pitcher of Year Big West Conference)
• RHP Wade Townsend, Rice (Pitcher of Year Western Athletic Conference)
• J.P. Howell, Texas (Pitcher of Year Big 12 Conference)
• RHP Matt Fox, Central Florida (Pitcher of Year Atlantic Sun Conference)
• RHP Justin Hoyman, Florida (Pitcher of Year Southeastern Conference)
• C Kurt Suzuki, Cal. St. Fullerton (Player of Year Big West Conference)
• 2B Jed Lowrie, Stanford (Player of Year Pacific-10 Conference)
• 3B Alex Gordon, Nebraska (Player of Year Big 12 Conference)
• SS Brian Bixler, Eastern Michigan (Player of Year Mid-American Conference)
• OF Chris Rahl, William & Mary (Player of Year Colonial Athletic Association)
• OF Eric Nielsen, Nevada-Las Vegas (Player of Year Mountain West Conference)
• DH Ryan Jones, East Carolina (Player of Year Conference USA)
• UT P.J. Hiser, Pittsburgh (Player of Year Big East Conference)
 
The first team features six starting pitchers who posted a combined 74-8 record with an ERA of 1.99. Long Beach State's Jered Weaver led first team All-American pitchers with 193 strikeouts. Central Florida's Matt Fox posted six complete games, a high for first teamers.
 
The offense features power, line drive hitters and speed. The first team belted 174 homers led by Billy Becher of New Mexico St. with 25. Becher also led first teamers with 90 RBIs. Seven first teamers hit 18 or more doubles this season led by Ryan Jones of East Carolina (24). As far as speed, William & Mary's Chris Rahl swiped 42 bases.
 
The first team also features Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of The Year in RHP Jered Weaver. Weaver posted a glistening 14-1 record prior to regional action and a 1.68 ERA. He struck out 193 batters with only 18 walks. Weaver is expected to be one of the first picks in the upcoming Free Agent Draft.
 
The following are the first, second and third team Louisville Slugger All-Americans for the 2004 season.
