PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (June 19, 2000)

LSU NO. 1 IN FINAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana State University, fresh from winning the College World Series with a 6-5 victory over Stanford Saturday in Omaha, Neb., has been ranked No. 1 in the final Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll of the season. The Tigers claimed their fifth national baseball championship in the last 10 years and closed the season with 13 consecutive wins.

LSU went 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference tournament, 3-0 in Regional action, 2-0 in Super Regional contests and 4-0 in the College World Series. The Tigers have never completed a season undefeated in all of its post-season games. The 13-game winning streak is the longest by an LSU club since the 1998 Tigers won 13 in a row.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
