MIAMI, FLA. NO. 1 IN FINAL 2001 COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Miami (Fla.) has been ranked No. 1 in the final 2001 Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Hurricanes, which won the College World Series last Saturday over Stanford, 12-1, finished the season with 17 consecutive wins. It was the Hurricanes' fourth national title in baseball which tied them with Texas for fourth place all-time. It also marked Miami's second national championship in three years.

The Hurricanes finished as one of the most prolific base stealing teams in school history. The team finished with an NCAA-high 228 this season which also ranks second on the UM all-time single season list behind the 1985 Miami NCAA championship team which recorded 231 steals.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
