ST. FRANCIS (CALIF.) H.S. NO. 1 IN EASTON SPORTS NATIONAL POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — St. Francis (Mountain View, CA) is ranked No. 1 in the latest Easton Sports National High School poll.

The Lancers (12-1), No. 1 for the second consecutive poll, have outscored opponents 67-16 and have six shutouts out of 13 games while missing two key players due to injury or illness. St. Francis has a huge test when they face Archbishop Mitty this week which is ranked No. 18.

The pitching staff has posted a 0.98 team ERA after 13 games with 76 strikeouts and 36 walks. Ryan DeGregorio has four wins (0.28 ERA, 19 strikeouts, 7 walks in 25 innings). Leading the hitters is infielder Alex Blandino (.308, 2 2B, 4 HR, 19 RBI).

No. 2 Edison (Huntington Beach, CA) has posted a 9-1 record and are ranked No.1 in the Los Angeles area. Henry Owens captured his fourth win of the season in a 2-0 victory over Huntington Beach. He struck out 10.

Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, NC) is No. 3 with a sparkling 12-0 record. They play in one of the top leagues in North Carolina. Kell pitchers have allowed only two earned runs in the last 40 innings.

No. 4 Owasso, OK has posted a 12-1 record while recently winning the Bartlesville Wood Bat Tournament.

Dylan Bundy is 4-0 with two 1-hitters and a no-hitter. He has struck out 52 of the 84 batters he has faced. Justin Steelmon leads the team with a .633 batting average and 3 home runs. Bundy is hitting .543 with 3 homers and 21 RBI.

As a team, the Rams are hitting .400.

Spanish Fork, UT is No. 5 with a 6-1 record. In recent games, Brady Corless threw a 3-hitter against Mountain View, Kayden Porter fired a 3-hit shutout over Pineview and Matt Nelson also pitched a 3-hitter against Box Elder. Hayden Nielsen threw a 1-hitter against Orem. In the last six games, the Dons have outscored opponents, 80-6.

No. 6 Sumrall, MS is 13-2 and features a strong pitching staff. Pitchers have thrown three no hitters, and the team ERA is 1.27.

Catholic (Baton Rouge, LA) is No. 7. Alex Massey has a 5-0 record with two saves, 1.42 ERA, 30 strikeouts and three walks in 25 innings. He threw a two-hit shutout against Acadiana, striking out 10.

Bishop Amat (La Puente, CA) is No. 8 and ranked second in the Los Angeles area. Of their six wins, they defeated Chatsworth, 5-0 and Long Beach Wilson, 3-0.

No. 9 Gulliver Prep (Miami, FL) has a 14-2 record. They beat Tampa Jesuit, 7-6 in 10 innings. After tying the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, the two teams played a terrific game into the 10th inning. Gulliver Prep’s Adrian Marin hit a line drive double to left field to score Henry Hernandez to win the game. Gulliver Prep is hitting .429.

The Woodlands, TX is No. 10 and ranked No. 1 in Texas in their division with a 16-2-2 record. Pitchers Andrew Godail (5-0) and Bryan Brickhouse (4-0) are undefeated for the season.

No. 11 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) is undefeated at 7-0. They play this week at the Big League Dugout Invitational in Phoenix.

Bryant, AR recently won the Florida League H.S. Invitational with four straight wins over Florida schools. They are ranked No. 12. Freshman Wesley Akers threw a perfect game against North Pulaski while senior Caleb Milam is 4-0 with 26 strikeouts and three walks in 25 innings. Top hitters are Landon Pickett (.500, 3 2B, 12 RBI) and Evan Jobe (.485, 3 2B, 16 RBI).

No. 14 Cuthbertson (Waxhaw, NC) has stumbled only once in a 1-0 loss to Weddington in going 5-1 on the season. All five wins are shutouts. They have outscored opponents, 68-2.

No. 17 Lawrence Free State, KS started its season with three wins. Pitcher Colin Toalson is 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and no walks in 6 2/3 innings and Cody Kukuk has one win, 18 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.

No. 18 Farragut (Knoxville, TN) has an 8-2 record that includes five shutouts. For the season, the Admirals have outscored opponents, 90-26. In a 2-0 win over Columbia, LHP Philip Pfeifer captured his 43rd high school victory over his prep career.

No. 20 Christian Brothers College (St. Louis, MO) started its season with a 4-1 record.

Flanagan (Pembroke Pines, FL) is ranked No. 21. They recently won the Jacksonville Tournament of Champions featuring last year’s state champions from Georgia and Florida.

Junior 3B Andres Sanchez is hitting .526 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI while SS Ricky Santiago is hitting .488 with 8 doubles and 10 RBI. Top pitchers have been LHP Mike Melendez (4-2, 1.13 ERA, 36 K), LHP Mike Emigh (4-0, 1.67 ERA, 29 K), RHP Jose Mesa (3-0, 2.68 ERA, 17 K) and RHP Robert Collin (1-0, 0.58 ERA, 11 K).

No. 24 Archbishop McCarthy (Southwest Ranches, FL) has a 14-2 record. Jose Brizuela crushed a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to finish a 10-run outburst as the Mavericks mercy ruled Cardinal Gibbons, 11-0. The game was a 1-0 pitchers’ duel between Andrew Martinez and Cardinal Gibbons’ lefty Thomas Woodrey until the bottom of the fifth inning. That’s when the Mavericks took off in a 10-run scoring barrage. Eight of the 10 runs in the inning were scored with two outs.

No. 25 Mesquite (Gilbert, AZ) has a 15-1 record and recently beat Hamilton H.S., 7-1. Top hitters are Garret Jeffries (.538, 14 RBI), Lane Doty (.491, 4 HR, 19 RBI) and Nick Rosales (.458, 22 RBI). Pitcher Zach Davies is 3-0 with 2 saves, 1.67 ERA, 21 strikeouts, 4 walks in 21 innings. Evan Williams and Josh Tubbs each have three wins.

No. 26 Harrisburg, IL started its season with three wins. Ryne Roper is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 21 strikeouts in 8.3 innings. Isaac Behme has hit two home runs and has 10 RBI.

Fairhope, AL (18-1) is No. 27. The team has hit 37 home runs in 19 games. Chase Domino leads the team with seven. Peyton Fuller, Toby Thomas and Hunter Ellinburg each have four wins and ERAs under 2 for the season.

No. 28 Broken Arrow, OK has a 13-1 record. OF Mak Monckton is hitting .514 with 10 RBI. Pitcher Archie Bradley is 4-0 with a 0.28 ERA, 46 strikeouts and six walks in 25 2/3 innings. The team ERA is 1.32.

Dropped from the poll are Weatherford, TX 18-4; Millard West, NE 2-2; Pelham, AL 18-8 and Hamilton, AZ 11-3.
